We wanted to learn a little bit more about our Brooklyn Bicycle Co. community, so we created a section of our journal dedicated to some of the people we’ve been fortunate to call our customers.
Each month we will feature a different member of the Brooklyn Bicycle Co. community and share what makes them tick.
Read on to learn about the most recent member of our community spotlight...
Jessica Rey, Actress and Founder of Rey Swimwear
Where do you call home and explain some of your favorite things about your community?
Home for me is Southern California, but I do travel quite a bit so home is really wherever I am together with my husband and 3 kids. The neighborhood we live in is all about community— I almost feel like we’re living in another era. Everyone is so friendly, people ride their bikes and take walks, know each other’s names and are willing to lend a helping hand when needed.
Can you tell us about Rey Swimwear, how you started the company and the mission behind the company?
I started Rey Swimwear when I simply couldn’t find a swimsuit that made me feel both comfortable and beautiful. My first swimsuit was made for myself, with no intention of starting a company. When countless people asked where they could get one, I knew that starting a business was the next step. We have since expanded into more than Swimwear— dresses, skirts, and tops that are timeless. The heart of my company is dignity— a respect for the people who make them clothes and who wear them.
What are you most passionate about? What passions drove you to your chosen field?
I am most passionate about helping ladies to embrace their dignity— to know their innate value, no matter what they look like, what talents they have, or what they own. This is what drives me.
What impact has your bike had on your lifestyle?
Riding a bike is freeing for me. It brings me back to my childhood— a time when I didn’t have a care in the world. Being a "mompreneur" can be quite stressful and it’s wonderful to be able to relax and relieve some of that stress with my kids, riding our bikes around our neighborhood.
What does the Brooklyn Bicycle Co. brand mean to you?
I love supporting small, locally owned businesses. To me, the brand is about sleek minimalist design and quality.
