We wanted to learn a little bit more about the community surrounding Brooklyn Bicycle Co. bikes, so we created a section of our journal dedicated to some of the people we’ve been fortunate to call our customers.

Each month we feature a different member of the Brooklyn Bicycle Co. community and share what makes them tick.

Read on to learn about the most recent member of our community spotlight...

Chloe of Thousand Helmets with Brooklyn Bicycle Co. Lorimer

CHLOE OBICO, MARKETING LEAD, THOUSAND HELMETS

Where do you call home and explain some of your favorite things about your community?

LA has always been home for me. I live in Downtown right now, in the heart of the Little Tokyo neighborhood. I love it because not only is it close to all of my favorite spots in DTLA, but it's also a vibrant community with a history that dates all the way back to the early 1900s. You can really feel the history and sense of community just by walking around… one of my favorite neighborhood spots is a Japanese bakery down the street that’s been around since 1903!

Tell us about Thousand Helmets and your role within the company.

Thousand makes thoughtfully designed cycling gear to help people reconnect to the joy of riding their bike. We make helmets that people actually want to wear so that riders don't have to sacrifice style for safety (or vice versa) – and we also happen to be sold through a certain Brooklyn-based bicycle company! ;) As Thousand's Marketing Lead and Copywriter, I'm responsible for managing our online and in-person marketing efforts, and for serving as the company's voice wherever Thousand speaks.

What are you most passionate about? What passions drove you to your chosen field?

I'm passionate about using thoughtful writing to help bring meaningful brands to life. I believe it's important to help drive positive change by giving consumers the option to make purchases that are better for the planet and for people.

What impact has biking had on your lifestyle?

Biking has completely changed my lifestyle! Since moving to Little Tokyo, I've actually gotten rid of my car – something almost unheard of in LA. Now I bike and take public transportation nearly everywhere I need to go, and I love the combination of freedom, exercise, and independence I get from using my bike as my primary mode of transportation.

Run us through your perfect Saturday biking around LA.

Right now my favorite place to bike is along the LA River Bike Path, so I'd wake up, bike down to Bicycle Coffee for a quick breakfast and then ride to the start of the path. I love biking around this path because it has the greenery and wildlife of the river on one side of the path and shops, restaurants, and bars on the other.

What Brooklyn Bicycle Co. bike do you ride? What made you choose this specific model?

I ride the Lorimer because its compact frame perfectly fits my petite height. I love how lightweight and fast it is! Plus, with the added honey leather saddle and grips, it looks amazing.

Share something that you are really excited about right now. Could be a favorite book, recipe, cocktail, movie, taco stand, etc.

I love checking out new restaurants and bars and right now have been very into Genever, a new bar in the Historic Filipinotown neighborhood. It's owned by three Filipino women (which, as a Filipino-American woman, I love) and specializes in gin cocktails (which, as a gin-lover, I also love).
